Domains
Keep one list of your organisation's domains so you can pick them when you set up websites, knowledge bases and chat widgets.
Account → Organisation → Domains is your subscription's list of domain names, such as example.com or help.example.com. Other parts of Structurell use this list whenever you need to choose a domain, so you enter each domain once and pick it from a list everywhere else. This keeps the same domain spelled the same way across your websites, knowledge bases and chat widgets.
Before you start
Domains is available to subscription administrators and to users who have been given permission to manage domains.
Adding a domain here doesn't change your DNS, move your domain, or prove that you own it. Where a feature needs DNS records, such as a custom domain for a knowledge base, that feature tells you what to set up. See Attaching a docs domain.
Where domains are used
Once a domain is in the list, you can choose it when you:
- Set up a website in Content, using Choose domain....
- Create a knowledge base and choose its domain. See Creating a knowledge base.
- Set up a chat widget's Assigned domains, Content domain or Docs domain. See Chat widgets and conversations.
Some domains are added to the list for you when you set up a website or knowledge base elsewhere in Structurell, so you may see entries you didn't create here.
Add a domain
- Go to Account → Organisation → Domains and select New.
- Set the Status.
- Enter a Name that helps you recognise the domain, for example "Main website" or "Help centre".
- Enter the Domain Name, for example
www.example.com. - Select Save.
After saving, Structurell opens the Domain Detail page. The Information section shows the domain's ID and when it was created and last updated.
Edit a domain
- Go to Account → Organisation → Domains and open the domain.
- Change the Status, Name or Domain Name.
- Select Save.
If you change the domain name, check the websites, knowledge bases and chat widgets that use it afterwards.
Disable or delete a domain
- To stop a domain being offered in domain lists without removing it, open it, change its Status to disabled and select Save.
- To remove a domain, open it and select Delete, then confirm.
Before you disable or delete a domain, check whether a website, knowledge base or chat widget still uses it.
Troubleshooting
- A domain doesn't appear when you choose one elsewhere. Check that it's in Account → Organisation → Domains and that its status is enabled.
- You can't open Domains. Ask a subscription administrator for access.
- Your custom domain doesn't load. This page only records the domain name. Follow the DNS instructions in the feature that uses the domain.
