Writing blog posts

Write, categorise, publish and schedule blog posts for your website.

Blog posts are articles, news and updates that appear in your website's blog. You manage them in Strengthen → Content → Posts. Each post belongs to one or more blog categories, and those categories decide which website's blog it appears on and what its web address looks like.

Before you start

Find your posts

The posts list shows all your posts. Summary tiles above the list show how many posts are Published (with the change over the last 30 days), your Publishing rate (posts per week over recent weeks), and how many posts have Drafts or are Scheduled. Select the Drafts tile to filter the list to posts with a draft.

Select a post to open it. Depending on your permissions, the actions menu on a row also lets you Enable, Disable or Delete a post, or Clear Frontend Cache so your website picks up the latest version.

If you see Unavailable instead of the list, select Try again.

Write a new post

  • Step 1: Go to Strengthen → Content → Posts and select New.
  • Step 2: If your organisation has more than one post template, choose one.
  • Step 3: On the General tab, enter a Title, Subtitle, Short Description and Body Text. The short description is used on post tiles and as a fallback meta description.
  • Step 4: On the Media tab, add an Image and a Thumbnail Image.
  • Step 5: On the Categories tab, tick one or more categories in the Category List.
  • Step 6: On the SEO tab, set the URL, Meta Title, Meta Description and Author. If you leave Meta Title empty, the post title is used when you save.
  • Step 7: Optionally, on the Related Posts tab, choose up to 3 Related posts to show alongside this one. Drag them to change their order, or select Remove to take one off.
  • Step 8: Select Publish now, or open the Actions menu (the button next to it) to Save Draft, Schedule or Schedule with revert.

The fields you see depend on the post template your administrator has set up, so you may see extra tabs or fields.

How post addresses are built

A post's web address is made from your website's blog path, then the post's main category, then the post's own URL. For example, a post with the URL "spring-update" in a "news" category might live at /blog/news/spring-update. Your administrator sets the blog path for each website.

If you change the URL of a post, Structurell automatically creates a permanent redirect from the old address to the new one and updates links to it in your other content, so existing links keep working. See Redirects.

Publish, draft and schedule

Posts use the same publishing options as pages:

  • Publish now makes your changes live and returns you to the posts list. Publish and continue keeps the editor open.
  • Save Draft stores your changes without touching the live post. Use Edit Draft, Exit Draft and Delete Draft to manage it.
  • Schedule asks for a Go live at date and time for your changes.
  • Schedule with revert also asks for a Revert at date and time, after which the post goes back to its previous version.

Once a post has been saved:

  • Select Preview to see it on your website in a new tab. The preview updates as you edit.
  • The Versions tab shows its history and the Comments tab lets your team discuss it.
  • The Review History tab shows the Publishing Sign-off panel, where you can Submit for review if your organisation uses publishing sign-off.

For more detail on drafts, scheduling and sign-off, see Creating and editing pages.

Get help from AI

If your package includes AI for Content:

  • In the posts list, choose AI Suggestion alongside New to plan post ideas based on your existing posts.
  • In the post editor, select the AI button at the bottom left and choose Writing assistant to improve the content or SEO metadata. You approve each change before it's applied.

See AI content suggestions.

Troubleshooting

  • The post doesn't appear on the website: check that it's enabled, published rather than a draft, and in at least one category that belongs to that website's blog.
  • You can't add a fourth related post: you can choose up to 3 related posts.
  • You can't save the post: check that you've ticked at least one category and chosen an Author and a URL. The editor opens the tab with the missing field.
