The Chat settings page is a quick status check for Chat. It shows whether chat is switched on, the name visitors see for your assistant, and whether transcript emails have the sender details they need. The settings themselves live on each chat widget. Go to **Account → Settings → Chat**.

## Before you start

- Chat must be included in your package. See [Package and add-ons](/account-and-access/package-and-add-ons).
- This page is for subscription administrators, and for users who have been given permission to view Chat settings. See [Users, teams, groups and permissions](/account-and-access/users-teams-groups-and-permissions).
- You need at least one chat widget. See [Setting up chat widgets](/grow/chat-widgets-and-conversations).

## What the page shows

A **Chat** card shows an overall status of **Configured** (chat is enabled) or **Not Configured**. Its **Assistant** section lists:

- **Chat enabled**: **Enabled** if chat can receive conversations, otherwise **Disabled**.
- **Assistant name**: the name visitors see in the chat window, or **Not configured**.
- **Transcript delivery**: **Configured** once both a sender name and a sender email address are set for transcript emails, otherwise **Not configured**.

These values come from your first chat widget, the one created earliest. If you have more than one widget, each has its own settings; check the others in **Grow → Chat → Widgets**.

## Change the settings

Change these settings on the widget, not on this page:

1. Go to **Grow → Chat → Widgets** and open your first widget.
2. To switch chat on or off, change **Enable public chat**.
3. To change the assistant's name, edit **Bot name**.
4. To set up transcript emails, fill in **Transcript from name** and **Transcript from email**.
5. Save the widget, then return to **Account → Settings → Chat** to check the status.

The widget has more options than this page shows, such as the welcome message, fallback message, domains and knowledge sources. See [Setting up chat widgets](/grow/chat-widgets-and-conversations).

## Troubleshooting

- **The page shows Unavailable**: Chat settings couldn't be loaded, or Chat isn't active for your subscription. Check your package and refresh the page.
- **"This section is temporarily unavailable at the moment."**: some settings couldn't be loaded. Select **Refresh**.
- **Transcript delivery shows Not configured**: fill in both transcript fields on your first widget and save it.
