If you have a Structurell account but do not belong to any subscription yet, you can ask an administrator for access from the Portal. The administrator receives your request and decides whether to add you, and with what access. This article covers both sides: sending a request, and approving one.

## Before you start

- You need a Structurell account and must be signed in. If you do not have an account yet, ask an administrator to add you. See [Signing up](/getting-started/signing-up).
- You need the email address of someone who administers the subscription you want to join. Ask your manager or IT team if you are not sure.
- If you already belong to a subscription and need access to another one, ask that subscription's administrator to invite you. See [Invites and access requests](/account-and-access/invites-and-access-requests).

## Request access

When you sign in without a subscription, you see the **Subscription Access** page with the message "No subscriptions are currently assigned to your account. Request access from a subscription admin."

1. In the **Request access** panel, enter the administrator's email address in **Admin email**.
2. Select **Request access**.

You see "If that address belongs to a Structurell user, we have sent them your request." For privacy, the reply is the same whether or not the address has a Structurell account, so the page never reveals who has an account.

Your request appears in the **Request access** list below the form, with its status: **Pending**, **Accepted**, **Rejected**, **Cancelled** or **Expired**. Requests expire after 14 days if nobody responds. If you send another request to the same administrator while one is still pending, the existing request is kept rather than a new one being created.

### Cancel a request

In the **Request access** list, select **Cancel** next to a pending request. You can then send a new request to a different administrator if you need to.

### When your request is accepted

Once an administrator accepts your request, the subscription is added to your account and the status changes to **Accepted**. Refresh the Portal to start working in it. You get exactly the access the administrator chose when accepting. See [Users, teams, groups and permissions](/account-and-access/users-teams-groups-and-permissions).

## Approve a request (administrators)

When someone asks you for access, we let you know in two ways:

- An email titled with the requester's address followed by "requested access to Structurell", containing a **Review access request** button. The email is sent unless you have switched off email for **Subscription Access Requests** in your notification preferences.
- A Portal notification, "Subscription access requested", if you already have a Structurell account.

No access is granted until you accept the request. To approve it:

1. Select **Review access request** in the email, or open the notification.
2. Sign in if asked. You must be signed in with the email address the request was sent to.
3. On the **Accept Subscription Access Request** page, check who it is under **Requested by**.
4. Under **Choose a subscription**, pick the subscription to add the person to.
5. Under **Permissions**, tick what this person can do. They get exactly what you pick: no groups, and no administrator access unless you grant it.
6. Tick **Grant administrator access** only if they should administer the subscription.
7. Select **Accept request**.

The page then shows "Access request accepted." You can adjust their access later in **Account → Users**. See [Users, teams, groups and permissions](/account-and-access/users-teams-groups-and-permissions).

If the person is already a member of the subscription you choose, the page says so and shows the access they already have. Accepting only adds the permissions you tick; nothing they already hold is taken away.

Only subscription administrators can accept requests, and only for subscriptions they administer.

## If you do not recognise the person

Do not accept the request. If you leave it, it expires after 14 days and the person gets no access. If the request looks suspicious, contact support.

## Troubleshooting

- **"This link is no longer valid."** The request may have expired or already been answered, or you may be signed in with a different email address from the one the request was sent to.
- **"You do not administer a subscription, so you cannot accept this request."** Ask an administrator of the right subscription to accept it instead.
- **The administrator did not get an email.** Check you entered their address correctly. They may have switched off email for access requests, but they will still see a notification in the Portal if they have an account.

For how to control notifications like these, see [Your profile and notification preferences](/getting-started/your-profile-and-notifications).
