Site monitoring checks your websites around the clock. Structurell regularly requests each of your site's domains over HTTPS, records whether it responded successfully and how long it took, and alerts you when a site starts failing or recovers. You'll find it under **Assure → Monitoring**.

## Before you start

- Monitoring must be included in your package. See [Package and add-ons](/account-and-access/package-and-add-ons).
- You need permission to view monitoring, and separate permission to add, change or delete sites. See [Users, teams, groups and permissions](/account-and-access/users-teams-groups-and-permissions).
- A site is monitored through its domains, and domains are added under **Account → Domains**. Add your site's domains there first. See [Domains](/account-and-access/domains).

## Adding a site

1. Go to **Assure → Monitoring** and select **Add Site** in the **Add New Site** panel at the bottom of the page.
2. Choose the site type, for example **WordPress**, **Magento**, **Adobe Commerce**, **Shopify**, **Next.js** or **Other**.
3. Enter a **Name** for the site.
4. Choose one or more **Domain Names** from your subscription's domains.
5. Select **Save**. You return to the monitoring page.

If your subscription has no domains yet, the page says "No domains are available for this subscription." and offers a **New Domain** button.

Checks start automatically once the site is saved. Until the first checks have run, the site may show **No Monitoring Data Yet**.

## What is checked

For each domain on a site, Structurell requests the home page over HTTPS every few minutes. A check passes when the site responds successfully. It fails if the site returns an error, doesn't respond in time, can't be reached, or has a problem with its SSL certificate. When a site that was working fails, Structurell checks it again a few seconds later before recording the failure, to avoid false alarms.

## Reading the monitoring page

**Assure → Monitoring** opens **Site Monitoring**. The summary at the top shows:

- **Total Sites** being monitored.
- **Healthy / Degraded / Failing**: how many sites are in each state.
- **Average Total Time**: the typical response time across your sites.
- **Worst Current Site**: the site that is currently slowest.
- **Recent Incidents**: problems picked up during recent checks.

Below, **Site Performance** shows a card for each site, with failing sites first. Use **Date range** to choose **Last 7 days**, **Last 30 days**, **Last 90 days** or **Custom**. Each card shows:

- The domain and a status of **Healthy**, **Degraded** or **Failing**.
- **Average Total Time**, a **Trend** comparing recent response times with the period before, and **Recent Incidents**.
- A chart of response times broken down into total time and the stages of the connection.
- An **Availability Timeline** showing recent check windows, so you can see when problems happened.

Select **Refresh Monitoring** to load the latest data.

### What the statuses mean

- **Failing**: the latest check failed, or the SSL certificate has a problem.
- **Degraded**: the site is responding, but slowly (a typical response time of 1.5 seconds or more).
- **Healthy**: the site is responding normally.

Each unbroken run of failed checks counts as one incident.

For a shorter summary of the same information, use **Assure → Reviews**. See [Assurance reviews and audit schedules](/assure-and-diagnose/assurance-reviews-and-schedules).

## Alerts

When a domain's status changes, for example from passing to failing, or back to passing when it recovers, Structurell sends an alert. Alerts are only sent when the status changes, not on every failed check, and slow responses don't trigger alerts.

Subscription administrators receive the alert as a Portal notification and an email titled "Site health changed for" followed by the domain. The email's **Open in Structurell** button opens the site in the Portal, and **Visit Website** opens the site itself. You can choose how you receive **Website Health Changes** notifications, including push alerts, in your profile. See [Your profile and notifications](/getting-started/your-profile-and-notifications).

You can also send these alerts to Slack or Microsoft Teams with the **Website health changed** event. See [Notification routes](/connections/notification-routes).

## Editing a site

Select a site on the monitoring page to open it.

1. On the **General** tab, change the **Name** or **Domain Names**.
2. Select **Save**. You return to the monitoring page.

The **Statistics** tab shows the same charts and timeline as the monitoring page, for this site only. The **Information** tab shows when the site was created and last updated.

## Deleting a site

Open the site, select **Delete** and confirm. Monitoring stops and the site is removed from the monitoring page. You need permission to delete sites.

## Troubleshooting

- **A site shows no data.** Checks may not have run yet. Wait a few minutes and select **Refresh Monitoring**.
- **A site is failing but loads in my browser.** Check that the domain works over HTTPS without an error and that its SSL certificate is valid. Sites that redirect several times may also fail.
- **I can't add a site.** Make sure the domain has been added under **Account → Domains**, and that you have permission to add sites.
- **The page says "Error Getting Site Stats".** Select **Refresh Monitoring** to try again.
