Nobody joins your Structurell subscription by accident. There are three ways in, and each one names a specific person:

- An administrator adds them on **Account → Access → Users**. See [Users, teams, groups and permissions](/account-and-access/users-teams-groups-and-permissions).
- An administrator sends them an email invitation, which they accept themselves.
- They ask an administrator to let them in, and the administrator accepts the request and chooses their access.

This article covers invitations and requests, which you handle on the **Subscription Access** page.

## Before you start

- You need to be a subscription administrator to send invitations and to accept or reject requests to join.
- The **Subscription Access** page isn't in the menu. Open it by going to `/account/request-access` in the Portal while you're working in the subscription you want to manage.
- Structurell doesn't let people join automatically because their email address is at your organisation's domain. Every new member is added, invited or accepted by an administrator.

## The Subscription Access page

At the top, two tiles show how many **Members** the subscription has and how many **Requests to join** are waiting for you. Requests are addressed to a person, so you only see the ones sent to your email address. Below them, **Access actions** has two tabs:

- **Invite**, for sending an email invitation. Only administrators see this tab.
- **Request**, for asking an administrator of another subscription to let you in. See [Requesting access to a subscription](/getting-started/requesting-access-to-a-subscription).

## Invite someone by email

1. Open the **Subscription Access** page and select **Invite**.
2. Enter their **Email address**.
3. Tick **Invite as admin** if they should administer the subscription.
4. Select **Send invite**. You'll see "Request submitted."

If the address already belongs to a member, Structurell warns you before you send and the **Send invite** button stays unavailable. An invitation only adds access, so change an existing member's access on **Account → Access → Users** instead.

An invitation carries administrator access if you ticked **Invite as admin**, and no other permissions. If you invite someone as a standard member, open **Account → Access → Users** after they accept and give them the permissions or groups they need.

### What the invited person does

The person receives an email with the subject "You have been invited to join" followed by your subscription's name. To accept it:

1. Select **Review and accept invitation** in the email.
2. Sign in to Structurell with the same email address the invitation was sent to. That address must be verified.
3. On the **Accept Subscription Invite** page, select **Accept invite**. They'll see "Invite accepted."

The subscription is then available to them. See [Creating or switching subscriptions](/getting-started/creating-or-switching-subscriptions).

### Invitations you've sent

Invitations expire after 14 days. The Portal doesn't list pending invitations and they can't be resent or withdrawn. If an invitation has expired, send a new one. If it went to the wrong address, send a new one to the right address; the old one can only be accepted by someone signed in with the address it was sent to.

## Handle a request to join

When someone asks to join and enters your email address as the administrator, you receive an email with the subject ending "requested access to Structurell", and a notification in Structurell. No access is granted until you accept.

### Accept a request

1. Select **Review access request** in the email, or open the notification.
2. On the **Accept Subscription Access Request** page, check who it's from under **Requested by**, along with any message they left.
3. Under **Choose a subscription**, pick the subscription to add them to. If you administer only one, it's already chosen.
4. Under **Permissions**, choose what they can do. They get exactly what you pick: no groups, and no administrator access unless you tick **Grant administrator access**.
5. Select **Accept request**. You'll see "Access request accepted."

If the person is already a member of the subscription you chose, Structurell tells you so and shows their current access. Accepting adds to what they already have and removes nothing.

### Reject a request

1. Open the **Subscription Access** page.
2. Under **Requests to join**, find the request. This list shows the pending requests sent to your email address.
3. Select **Reject**.

Requests expire after 14 days if nobody answers them.

## Troubleshooting

- **The invited person can't accept.** Check they're signed in with exactly the address the invitation was sent to, that the address is verified, and that the invitation is less than 14 days old.
- **"This link is no longer valid."** The request has expired, has already been answered, or was sent to a different account than the one you're signed in with.
- **"You do not administer a subscription, so you cannot accept this request."** Only a subscription administrator can accept. Ask one to do it.
- **"You cannot handle requests to join this subscription."** You aren't an administrator of the subscription you're working in.
- **The Invite tab is missing.** Only subscription administrators can send invitations.
